Upper Room Tax Service came from the unrelenting desire of our founder Alfred Haase to fix something that is broken. The conception happened when he was confronted by his regional manager for undermining the box (well more like sunrise) tax preparation company he was working for. What the director failed to realize is that all the other managers were calling Alfred for answers about the tax code and even answers about the software program they were working with because it was easier and more helpful than calling the help desk.
Also Alfred likes people who are in charge to know their product or service. When he asked the regional manager one day if he had prepared his own taxes, the regional director responded, "Well..No, I get someone else to do that for me." Alfred's response was less than tactful. "Wait, you are my boss and you have never even prepared your own taxes?!"
But back to the story of UpperRoom's conception. When the regional manager accused Alfred of undermining the company, Alfred responded, "I have never undermined this company. I have only tried to make it better. It would be foolish for me to undermine the company because it is my meal ticket. Besides, undermining is not how I would hurt this company. I would start my own company and bury you." Six months later UpperRoom was incorporated (there was a marriage in there that put other things on hold for a bit) and two months after that it was up and taking clients. So now you faithful readers can actually see how life began for this company.
While we would love to uphold Alfred's vision of putting a big company out of business, we realize that we need to focus on providing the best service, the most knowledgeable employees, and a reasonable price for our clients. In short we choose to be great instead of being big. If we end up big, it will be because of our clients and their loyalty, not because of expensive ad campaigns and stupid (client costly) quick refund schemes.
